Golf college vs. college golf

I just wanted to take a quick moment and help those of you who are having a bit of a challenge with something near and dear to me. Golf college is something very, very different than college golf. You hear me talk a lot about the fact that I attended 2 golf course management schools and then you start making assumptions.

To be fair, I might sometimes confuse you when I use terms like golf colleges, however, and if you're that easily confused, I apologize. Please folks, stop sending me emails and leaving comments asking me which college I played golf for. I was not a university student that joined the golf team.

No, I was one of thousands of individuals that decided to change career focus mid way through life. We've attended accredited golf course management schools, not the college that follows one's K-12 educational career.

It is easy to make the mistake, and I'm not really mad or irritated about it. Just wanted to let folks know that I'm no Rhodes Scholar (at least I knew it wasn't Roads Scholar!) What I am is a nicely paid golf course manager that handles just about every aspect of making our local course the most playable 18 holes around. Hope to see you there sometime.

Dealing with disability insurance companies

As a front office manager for a medical doctor, I do much, much more than just answer phones and set appointments for patients. Every couple of years, it becomes a primary focus to make sure my doctor has the proper physician disability insurance. For this practice, 2 years is just about the right amount of time to renew the policy.

Much can happen over the span of 2 years, and the last thing you want to do is discover that you do not have enough coverage for your doctor after something less than positive has occurred.

A lot of folks have bad tastes when it comes to dealing with insurers, but I have to admit that the disability insurance companies I've dealt with over the years have mostly been excellent, professional businesses to deal with.

Perhaps part of this reason has to do with the fact that only one claim has been made against the practice, and that one was successfully disputed for about 75% reductions in what the claimant was demanding.

That is the other great thing about disability insurers, they are the ones having to pay out on claims. As a physician you can be assured they are going fight tooth and nail to make sure the payout is justified.

People Always Find Ways Around the Rules

Show me any rule and I will show you someone who has found a way to get around the rule. It seems to be human nature. None of us want to be boxed in. We will find a way to do what we want to do even if there are rules put in place to stop us.

There are examples of this all throughout history. It isn't just individuals that break the rules either. Sometimes entire groups of people will find a way to break a rule together.

For example, back in the 1970's, the country of Japan decided that it was going to ban firearms. Individuals would no longer be allowed to own their own firearms. But what about those people who really enjoyed shooting guns? I'm not talking about the ones who tried to find illegal ways to own guns. I'm talking about those people who wanted to own guns but who didn't want to break the law.

Thus was born the invention of airsoft pistols. These were toy guns that were designed to look and function almost exactly like real firearms. The only big difference was that they didn't use real bullets. This allowed people to own and use guns without breaking the law.

Can’t Someone Look Over Divorce Settlements?

When I went through my divorce, I found myself a very nice lawyer who really filled what I needed at the time: a deeply understanding, grandfatherly presence that calmed me and made me feel like it all was going to be alright. I remember to this day one very comforting statement: that I had a lot to offer any man and someday I would find the right one.

He was great, but in hindsight, I wish he’d been just a touch more aggressive. I did get everything I asked for, but he overlooked a couple of issues, which I guess is true in any divorce: a couple of things people overlook in the turmoil they just wish their attorney had caught.

For my Pittsburgh personal injury attorney, I’m going to pay a lot more attention to detail and to my options. I’m sure these guys pay a lot more attention to these matters since the fee is based a little on recovery so many times (but not always). And in Pittsburgh personal injury is handled just a little differently than it is here in Colorado. Just as in divorces, every state is different: some states are community property states, for example.

3 Signs That Your Self Storage Is Convenient Enough

If you are seeking to get a self storage unit then one of the most important things that you should look for is convenience. A good unit will be totally convenient for you.

Here are 3 major signs that your self storage unit is convenient enough to meet your needs:
  • It is located in a place that is easy to get to. What if you need to get something that you have in storage? Will you have to drive hours away to get it or is the self storage unit conveniently located?
  • It offers a variety of storage locker sizes. You may find that you want to change the size of your locker in a few months or a few years. A self storage place that offers lockers of many sizes can accommodate you as well then as it might now.
  • It offers the accessories that you need. If your lock breaks, you should be able to buy a new one on the property. If you need to move something heavy, the storage unit should have a dolly available.

If your self storage place doesn't meet these three minimum requirements of convenience then you may want to keep looking for a new one. After all, the whole point of self storage is to make your life easier!

Cloud computing and self managed server hosting

At some point, I needed to make a decision about the next iteration of web hosting I was going to provide for my business. I was currently in a colocation plan and while generally happy with the results, I knew that we were going to need to begin replacing our equipment in the very near future.

While having lunch with a colleague, I asked what his company's IT department was doing about similar situations. He indicated that they had decided not to purchase new equipment. I was shocked! I didn't understand what they were going to do and asked him if they had decided to convert their online operations over completely to a cloud computing arrangement.

He indicated that they were in fact considering offloading a percentage of hosting needs to the cloud, but had decided to invest in self managed server hosting packages for the rest.

His IT staff had crunched the numbers and decided over the next 2.5 years, they would actually save a huge chunk of money by simply paying to lease equipment instead of buying it outright and placing it in a data center somewhere.

Armed with this knowledge I went back to my IT staff, and after some discussion, we decided upon a similar plan of action.

Installing Wheelchair Lift At A Business

As a business, you need to provide the most accessible entrances to your clients or customers. One way you can accomplish this is through the use of a wheelchair lift. These devices work very easily and they can be a simple installation. For those who have stairs (or even just one stair) you may be limiting the number of customers who can enter your doorway. Those in wheelchairs are unable to easily come into your place of business and therefore are likely to find someplace else to get what they need.

The installation of this type of lift can be an easy one. There are many products available to accommodate most types of needs. For a large number of stairs, consider stair lifts that are more substantial. It is worth the money to help those in wheelchairs to get into and around your location.

In many areas, providing accessible entrances for patrons who are in wheelchairs is a must. The process does not have to be difficult. Before you make the investment into a product, though, be sure the product meets all local code ordinances. You can find out what your requirements are by contacting your local government offices or officials.

Good Shop Dogs

Although we had many different dogs as pets over the years, there were only a few of them that my dad liked. My dad is a custom woodworker. He has his own large shop on the same property as our home. The only dogs that my dad really liked were the dogs that he said made good shop dogs.

A good shop dog, at least in his opinion, was a dog that loved to come hang out in the shop with him. That wasn't the only criteria though. Many of our dogs liked to spend time down there with Dad. Unfortunately, most of them got in the way of his work. A good shop dog also had to be a dog that knew how to stay out of the way. Dogs that got underfoot weren't good shop dogs. Dogs that found their own corner of the shop to hang out in were good shop dogs.

The best dog that we had was an Australian Shepherd named Playful. True to her name, she stayed playful all the way up into old age. Despite the fact that she was always playful with us kids, she knew exactly how to tone it down when hanging out in the shop with Dad. This wasn't the only reason that we loved her but it sure helped make Dad happy to have a good shop dog around!

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

Whether you are getting hair replacement surgery or a nose job, your choice of a plastic surgeon is very important. After all, this person holds your future appearance in their hands.

For example, one thing you'll want to do is confirm that your surgeon is qualified to do the work. A doctor once told me that you should always sort of interview your doctors, and ask where they went to school. Also, you'll want to make sure that they have plenty of experience in the area — for instance, you don't want a doctor who specializes in breast augmentation doing your nose job!

Another thing you'll want to pay attention to is how well you and your surgeon hit it off. Don't be afraid to listen to your gut instincts on this one — if you don't like the surgeon, then he shouldn't be working on you, no matter how good his work is. It is always important for their to be a positive repore between doctor and patient, no matter what kind of work is being done or what the health issue is.

Finally, though it may be distasteful to think about, it is also important to make sure that a doctor is in your price range. No matter how much you like him, his background, and his work, if you can't afford his prices you won't be able to have the work done. Plastic surgery and hair transplant cost can vary a lot between doctor to doctor, so be sure to look for one that is in the range that you can afford to pay.

If you pay attention to things like that, you are sure to be happy with the results of your surgery, just like the girl in this video. Check out the difference in her nose before and after her surgery — but if you are easily grossed out, you might want to skip the middle of the video, where they show some of the surgery!
