Dealing with disability insurance companies

As a front office manager for a medical doctor, I do much, much more than just answer phones and set appointments for patients. Every couple of years, it becomes a primary focus to make sure my doctor has the proper physician disability insurance. For this practice, 2 years is just about the right amount of time to renew the policy.

Much can happen over the span of 2 years, and the last thing you want to do is discover that you do not have enough coverage for your doctor after something less than positive has occurred.

A lot of folks have bad tastes when it comes to dealing with insurers, but I have to admit that the disability insurance companies I've dealt with over the years have mostly been excellent, professional businesses to deal with.

Perhaps part of this reason has to do with the fact that only one claim has been made against the practice, and that one was successfully disputed for about 75% reductions in what the claimant was demanding.

That is the other great thing about disability insurers, they are the ones having to pay out on claims. As a physician you can be assured they are going fight tooth and nail to make sure the payout is justified.
